Associate Vice President, Student Success Lead

Position Description 

Reporting to the Vice President for Solutions and Services, the Student Success Lead (AVP) will oversee and manage the strategic roadmap for student success services and solutions and provide subject matter expertise to cross-organization projects. The Student Success Lead will create a framework for evaluating and tracking the status and effectiveness of solutions implemented at partner schools to demonstrate the impact of investments. AVPs must demonstrate strategic acumen, operational excellence, and a service-centered mindset. The ideal candidate should have significant leadership-level higher education experience and be familiar with a variety of higher education technology systems. We are seeking a driven self-starter with a proven track record of successfully completing projects, a keen eye for detail, outstanding presentation, written and verbal communication skills, and exceptional project management and organizational skills who will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, entrepreneurially spirited environment.   

Responsibilities 

  • Develop, refine, and evaluate all student success solutions and services related to academic advising, teaching/learning, student success coaching, retention, engagement, belonging, support services, wellness, and graduation to ensure they sustainably support strategic impact for partner institutions. 
  • Provide oversight for all student success initiatives – including tracking and reporting efficiency, impact indicators, and program/performance outcomes.  
  • Identify, evaluate, and steward relationships and solution/service delivery with a portfolio of service provider partners.  
  • Establish areas of opportunity for additional student success solutions/services that support the strategic goals of partner institutions.  
  • Establish training materials, resources, playbooks, webinar series, etc., with input and insights from the engagement leads to support partner institutions in maintaining progress and/or sustaining adopted student success services/solutions.  
  • Align and sequence selected services and solutions, including readiness and enabling conditions projects, in a comprehensive work plan capturing the milestones and indicators to be tracked for the duration of the engagement.   
  • Provide strategic input for cross-functional assessments, post-implementation sustainability plans, and strategic work plans for institutional engagement.  
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing by capturing key learnings within student success (across partner institutions) for both internal and external stakeholder engagement.   
  • In collaboration with our technology center as well as members of the engagement team, facilitate various phases of implementation of new technologies at higher education institutions.  
  • Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and milestones to ensure on-time completion of student success initiatives in collaboration with engagement leads.  
  • Develop content and materials, such as presentations, project and/or impact reports, and playbooks that enhance or complement student success services and solutions. 
  • ​Serve as the primary source of current information on retention and graduation data/trends and student success strategies across higher education and specific to our partner institutions.   
  • AVPs may be deployed for pilot development or utilized to lead an initiative that is responsive to higher education landscape considerations.  
  • Use professional judgment to solve day-to-day concerns and work with leadership to innovate solutions and design improvements.  
  • Collaborate with other members of the Ed Advancement team on projects and technology solutions.  

Qualifications 

  • Management level experience in student success or student affairs at a public or private not-for-profit college or university setting; experience at federally designated minority-serving institutions (MSIs) preferred.  
  • Significant and progressive on-campus student success leadership experience and a broad understanding of the operational challenges of institutions, including under-resourced colleges and universities.   
  • Strong project and program management skills, including direct experience managing technology implementations.   
  • Experience analyzing, interpreting, and presenting quantitative and qualitative data to demonstrate impact, educate stakeholders, and inform decision-making, especially related to student success.    
  • Demonstrated success in establishing outreach and engagement strategies that drive mission impact.  
  • A persuasive, credible, and polished written and verbal communicator with excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.  
  • Ability to work effectively in collaborative or leadership roles with diverse groups of people.  
  • A demonstrated passion for Ed Advancement’s mission. A self-directed individual with integrity and a positive attitude who can thrive in our dynamic and emerging environment.   
  • Bachelor’s degree required with at least seven years of relevant higher education experience; advanced degree preferred with more than seven years of effective leadership in student success including at least six years in a supervisory role.  

 Working Conditions or Other Requirements 

Position will involve confidential information and highly sensitive matters which must be handled with tact and discretion. Must securely manage all data and non-public information. Occasional weekend and evening hours and local and non-local travel may be required.   Proximity to one of our offices (New York City and Washington, D.C) highly preferred. 

Salary range: $160,000-$180,000, commensurate with experience.
